wage slave

WAGE SLAVE

Most of us, those with at least a tenuous grasp on humor and the absurdity of life in general, those who dare not take things too seriously since if you do the apocalypse is simply not going to be very much fun at all, are want to smirk caustically at our pathetic existences and proclaim ourselves “wage slaves”. Those that do take life too seriously and still understand that they are also wage slaves tend to do silly things like living in caves and collecting aluminum cans for the cost of crack or alcohol ( just as I envy those who find solace in any holy book, I also envy those who can get through life by ingesting just enough fermented beverages to cope but not enough to enter decline. Alas, I can believe in neither and so my only defense against the bastards wearing us down is to laugh harder and harder at it all as I go down with the ship. Those screaming and panicking on the deck of that ship have absolutely no tolerance for the weird wild eyed guy cackling insanely, but that ain’t my problem beyond the fact no one listens to me ). But, hey, who likes those asswhores anyway, right? Bunch of stick in the muds. Look, life sucks, cause like it or not White People Problems still feel real to honkies, then it gets worse after you get married, and then generally after you’ve given every single dime you’ve ever earned to the wife and kids and then the same wife who is now the Ex, and then you die a horrible lonely death in excruciating pain. That’s just the way it goes. So let’s have fun on the journey anyway, shall we?

We are all wage slaves and even those of us who jump that ship like the smart rats ( a rat might be a disgusting creature crawling with fleas- but of course so are most bums living in a pile of newspapers and feces-but at least they are smart enough to know when to jump off a doomed ship. Smarter than most humans it would seem ) are still 100% dependent on The System anyway. The guy collecting aluminum cans is totally dependent on a enough of an economic surplus that folks can waste money throwing away those cans. To take just one example ( another would be an expat living in a Third World Country depending on either advertisements on the Internet which also depends on economic excess, or a Social Security check which is dependent on the government not screwing you. WOW!!! That sure seems like a safe bet ). So, either embrace your Wage Slave status or admit you are merely as dependent but in other ways. My point here is to obviously point out the obvious, but only as prelude to my main point. There is a very good reason we are now all wage slaves. It has nothing to do with demographic trends, or immigration to urban areas from the farm during the decades that saw widespread mechanization. All that had bearing, but the fact is that even then you weren’t forced to live that way. You could still escape the trap, still live life for yourself and be free. Even the Hippies could live unencumbered to grow asparagus and pot if they wished. Not any more and there is a very good reason for that.

I know you all get tired of me talking about energy as the key component in explaining most everything, but that is tough titties as the kitty is wont to say. Do you think it is a coincidence that the start of the economy changing from manufacturing to financial manipulation was after the Peak US Oil? And do you think it is any coincidence that at the same time folks in this country lost their independence? In large part, yes, that is the consequence of a governing body starting to centralize to save itself ( one of the earliest “kick-the-cans” that is now biting us in the ass ). Less individual autonomy is always a result. But by and large, we simply started to return to slavery of people as the petroleum slaves became too dear for profit to our rulers. Slavery has existed throughout history because it is free energy. Once our bankers and their butt buddies could no longer generate the same profits off petroleum, the only other alternative was to return to slavery.

Now, it would have been unseemly to chain up a bunch of folks right away. In fact, hey, let’s make this look really good and free the darkies once and for all. You know, the same folks we ignored since the post Civil War Reconstruction. The same ones we persecuted ourselves up North prior to that war ( which was just our first war of empire as we subjected an agrarian nation ). When Blacks get uppity and blame the White man for his oppression, they should look to the Northerners, those in charge for the last 150 years. Southern Crackers were the first wage slaves, not the oppressors since then. Anyway, look how quick folks went from wage earners to wage slaves ( the difference being, you could survive outside the system if you chose ). All “outside the system” loopholes have been quickly closed and nobody has much choice nowadays but to work all their lives for chump change in a never ending effort at bribing the machine to not crush them. You can’t do much anymore without being penalized by onerous property taxes, and that is by design. You are locked into the system ( there are other controls such as health regulations and environmental controls to keep you in line and dependent on System wages ). You can’t invest anymore in income production, merely consumption. Slavery is normal in a low energy surplus area and our wage slavery started when our energy supply started to dwindle. It might be a lot of greed and stupidity involved, but mostly this reflects systematic survival. Enjoy your gold colored shackles!
